| Welcome to the DMS-Army Website The Defense Message System (DMS) Program was established by the Under
Secretary of Defense (Acquisition) to facilitate and coordinate development of an
integrated common-user message system. The program's primary goal is to provide a message
system that satisfies writer-to-reader requirements while reducing cost and staffing
levels.
Its secondary goals are to improve functionality, security,
survivability, and availability. The DMS-Army Program evolved from the Army Record
Communications Modernization Program as a means to implement the Army's portion of the
Joint DMS, and to modernize message services for users at all echelons, from the
sustaining base to the tactical environment.
As evolutionary efforts, the DMS and DMS-Army Programs will
move messaging within DoD from the current manpower-intensive, high-cost messaging
environment based on AUTODIN, to a user-friendly, writer-to-reader messaging environment
based on Defense Data Network (DDN) and electronic mail (E-mail) concepts. |
